- Compare the four asset models on time, cost and skills
- Score each model against your own situation
- Commit to one primary model for the next 30 days
Lesson video coming soon. The full written lesson is below.
Every asset model can work and every one can fail. The goal of this lesson is not to find the “best” model, it is to find the best model for you: your time, your budget, your skills and your patience. By the end you will commit to one primary model for the rest of the course.
The four models side by side
| Model | Core skill | Startup cost | Typical pace | Main risks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Niche / affiliate site | Research and writing | Low | Slow build, often many months before meaningful traffic | Search updates, AI answers reducing clicks, program changes |
| Ecommerce / POD | Product sense and visuals | Low to moderate | Can get first sales faster, but ads and returns add cost | Thin margins, platform fees, trademark and quality issues |
| Domain investing | Research and negotiation | Moderate (you buy inventory) | Very patient; many names never sell | Renewal costs, illiquidity, trademark conflicts |
| Micro-SaaS / no-code tool | Problem solving and product | Low to moderate | Validation can be fast; growth is gradual | Support load, churn, platform dependency |
These are broad patterns, not promises. Costs, timelines and margins vary widely by niche and execution. For deeper comparisons read niche site vs ecommerce vs SaaS and the business models guide.
Score your fit
- Write your weekly hours. Be realistic. Five hours a week is fine, but it favors lower-maintenance models like a focused content site or a small domain portfolio.
- Set a risk budget. Decide the maximum you are willing to spend in the first 90 days and could lose without stress. Domains and paid-ad stores need more; content sites and no-code tools can start lean.
- Rate your skills 1 to 5. Writing, visual design, research, selling or negotiating, and technical building. AI helps everywhere, but you still need to enjoy the core work.
- Rate your patience 1 to 5. If you need early feedback, lean toward POD or a micro-SaaS you can validate with a landing page. If you can wait, content and domains fit.
- Score each model. Give each model a 1 to 5 score for fit with your hours, budget, skills and patience. Add them up.
- Pick one primary model. Choose the highest total. If two tie, choose the one you would still enjoy on a bad day.

Let AI challenge your choice
Once you have a pick, ask AI to argue against it. It surfaces blind spots before you invest time.
I am choosing a digital asset model for the next 30 days. My situation: [hours per week], [risk budget], skills: [list with 1-5 ratings], patience: [1-5]. My top choice is [model] and my second is [model]. 1. Give me the strongest case AGAINST my top choice for someone like me. 2. List the 5 most common beginner mistakes in this model. 3. Describe what "good progress" looks like at day 30 and day 90, without mentioning income figures.
Still torn? Imagine it is day 90 and progress has been slow. Which model would you still be willing to show up for on a quiet Tuesday? That answer usually reveals your best fit better than any spreadsheet.
What your choice changes in this course
- Niche site: you will focus on content, SEO, Pinterest and affiliate or ad revenue.
- Store / POD: you will focus on product selection, listings, marketplaces and margin math.
- Domains: you will focus on name research, acquisition rules, landing pages and marketplaces.
- Micro-SaaS: you will focus on problem validation, a no-code MVP, launch channels and subscriptions.
Complete the six-step scorecard above in your launch journal, run the AI prompt on your top pick, and write this sentence: “For the next 30 days my primary asset model is ______ because ______.” Then move on to Find and Validate Your Niche.
